A Crestmont Kids Project

After the 911 attack, Crestmont Kids met to discuss their concerns and
feelings. Everyone was most concerned about the children who lost a
parent. Each Global Kid wrote a letter to a child who was touched by the
WTC attack. Then, the group got together with sponsorship from Stop&Shop
and supplies from Wal-Mart and Home
Depot and created a mural of "Hope". The Crestmont Kids
hope to be able to share the mural at Comfort
Zone Camp where children who lost their loved one's on 911
will meet as a group. Kiddie Academy of Sparta has donated over $1,000.00 to
Comfort Zone Camp. The Kindergarten class used their hand prints to frame
the mural of "Hope". For more information on Comfort
Zone Camp click here.

Author Rachael
Paulson, Crestmont Kids and artist Suzanne
DeRussy Pasala worked on the Character Counts mural. The mural is 15 feet
long and was sponsored by Sparta Friends and Neighbors. To find out more
about the organization Character Counts, click here.

Students from the Sparta Middle School Art Class created this mural with
the assistance of Art Teacher Debbie Corso. This mural will be part of
the Art Mile project which is going to be recorded as the longest mural
in the world.

Alex's Mural
When author Rachael Paulson read about Alex in the newspaper, she
learned that the five year old had cancer. He was very ill and was
unable to attend school to be with other children.

The mural
was done to celebrate "Bag it Day" which is a town clean up that
takes place each Spring.
The
Flood Mural
Sponsored by Cemex
[Southdown]
In August of 2000, Sussex County was
devastated by a flood that left many homeless.
Crestmont Kids, along with author Rachael
Paulson,
brought lunch (donated by 2 Burger Kings) to the soup kitchen. Children who attended the soup kitchen for their meals joined
together with Crestmont Kids to create two murals with the help of art
coach, Joanne Tawfillis (kinderartistas.com).
One mural was taken away to become a part of the
Earth Mural Project. The
other mural was left at the soup kitchen. It has a harvest theme and is displayed above the area where the
community members dine.
ART
From Across the Globe

Students from Ghana came to the United States to
visit with author, Rachael
Paulson, for America Recycles Day 2000.

The
students brought with them a 36 foot painted canvas mural. They visited schools with an environmental performance, using the
Earth themed mural in their presentation. Upon leaving, the author was presented with the mural as a gift.
 | Florence Byrd Mural
|
Author Rachael Paulson visited the Florence Byrd School motivating students to
write about our country and to draw patriotic illustrations. As a
result, the students wrote beautiful poems to our president and designed
a beautiful mural for their art festival. Channel 8 came to film
the children's work. A special thanks to Exxon for supporting this
project, and also to American Forest & Paper Association who donated
books so that each student took home a signed copy of Rachael
Paulson's book.
